PETRIFIED FOREST & THE PAINTED DESERT ARIZONA

After camping for a
night in at Red Rock State Park in Arizona, we made our way over to the Petrified
Forest State Park and The Painted Desert.
This was a place that is worth the visit if you are visiting the state
or just driving by.
We were on a trip to Vegas Via route 66 so we took a 3-4 hr detour and stoped off at the Painted Desert scenic by-way. There are a lot of opportunities to pull off the road and take a hike out into the desert which was a great way to visit and cover a lot of ground.

The Painted desert is
a badland of mineral depositis which varied on color from pastel colors to shades
of green and blue.
I took a hike out in the desert and it can be pretty easy to
get lost as the mineral mound deposits are rather close to each other so it is
important to make sure you are oriented to your surroundings.
There were some areas that had scattered petrified wood logs laying around which was interesting to see among the mineral deposits and the few desert bushes scattered about.

Next we made our way over to the Petrified Forest where we found a lot of fallen logs broken up both big and small, but they were everywhere! I don’t think I have seen so many pieces of petrified wood anywhere else like this in the world. Some of these logs must have weighed 100s and a few even into the thousands of pounds.
