BUDDHA CAVE

Buddha Cave, Indiana
First time we came down to Buddha cave we took the day off of work and headed out in phils car early in the morning to head down to Mitchel Indiana for a quick trip into Buddha cave.

There was something about this trip that was just fantastic, first of all it was Phil Goldman, Tom Campbell, and Adam Haydock going down to the cave.  Just the three of us went to the cave and only dropped the 25 ft vertical fissure crack and went upstream to the second sump duck under and turned around.  We didn't see much of the cave but we had an absolute blast!

The walls on the lower well were covered in flowstone and formation decorations which was absolutely breathtaking to see.

There was also a waterfall which was flowing pretty good and we followed the falls for a while along with a side passage and ended up turning around so we could get back at certain time at night.

From thereafter, we called ourselves the brothers of the Guano and the three of us would set out to go caving in Indiana more and more which continued to fuel our fire and spark another chapter for the Windy City Grotto in Chicago.

The next time we came down, we spent more time going through the lower stream passage and going through some duck unders until we were not able to continue anymore.

Chris Parks accompanied us and we all had absolute blast going through this cave once again.  The entrance is even impressive with a nice walk in passage that leads to a climb up and around to a hands and stoop walking crawl to a 25ft vertical drop into the lower stream passage of Buddha cave.

We spent a good portion of the day here at Buddha cave and enjoyed the caves fine glory.

I have been pondering where the stream passage leads to and wonder if there is a way to dive this sump but approval was never given as there didn't seem to be a need to continue the survey.

There are also some side passages to explore in the upper and in the lower passage so when visiting the cave, take your time when going through Buddha cave

This cave is prob one of the most decorated caves in all of Indiana, if not the Midwest due to all the flowstone and formation growth that has been kept in pristine condition for a super long time now.

I want to thank the IKC for allowing us to access this cave and their continued support to preserve this property in its pristine condition that it is in.
