Cueva Del Caracol is a another short cave within the El Penon Santander North Andean Range of Colombia.

The cave and the location of the cave is in a beautiful high elevation prairie or bog like grass and thick jungle in the sinks and around the mountain cliffs.

The entrance of Caracol is a very large cavern with a couple water falls on each side of the room. The stadium like entrance has its own jungle inside which was like a botanical garden of sorts within its own light zone.

There is passage at the bottom of where the waterfalls into a siphon.  The siphon does not appear to be diveable at all.


  The passage went back to a seasonal pond that was bone dry at the time of our visit. Passage appears to continue beyond the dry lake bed.

Caracol has be told to be a cemetery for various times in Colombian history but we have not been able to confirm that information.

this is such a beautiful and pristine place so if you ever get a chance to visit the cave, please take special care to not damage or remove rocks from the cave.

These caves are important to the local Colombian people and to the bio diversity that relies on the caves resources for survival and habitat.
