Cueva De La Tronera is a very short but large cave in the North Andean range of Santander, Colombia.  Access can be from a non technical entrance via a sinkhole or vertically with a 350ft entrance drop into the cave.

The cave itself is only a few hundred feet in length but is well worth a half day visit to this area. As you enter the cave, you will hear a unique snarling sound coming from birds the size of chickens in the entrance, they almost sound like they are spitting with a snarley sound to them.

The cave was quite large but both ends of the passage could be seen from each entrance.



 We walked through to enjoy the cave and the scientists collected samples at the bottom level of the cave where the stream passage is located to study the aquatic life.

The shaft entrance is covered by moss on the walls and a hazy fog the settled in the middle of the drop. This would have made for a great rap but we did not bring vertical gear for this drop.

We hiked on out after taking some photos and headed back to the car.  Along the way we could hear water flowing and checked out another lead that ended up being a pit with a water fall flowing into it.

I cant wait to come back and check this lead along with so many others around the area of Tronera.
