AH HOL SAH SINK

morning at Ah Hol sah Sinkhole
The Southwest desert has some of the most interesting karst anomalies in the United States. The Ah Hol Sah sink hole is one of a few karst features that are located in a remote desert range.

Ah Hol Sah is believed to be a Breccia pipe with wall in insoluble clastic rock. This is believed to overlie another deep seated pipe within the limestone.  This sinkhole was formed from the dissolution of gypsum creating this collapse which has created the massive hole.

Ah Hol Sah is a Karst feature in the Kaibab Desert that is a large collapse with a dry watercourse that is covered by dead sage.

The drop was around 80ft to a breakdown pile that took us another 60ft down to the flat bottom of the sinkhole.

There was a bunch of trash and the initials of people were made out of rocks to spell out works on the ground.  We cleaned up the sink hole a bit and took some trash back up with us to keep the lands in pristine condition.

It appeared that the total depth of the sink is around 150-170ft. to the bottom of the dry collapse. There were sections of the sink where the walls were a bit lower but the overall depth is around 170ft.

Once we were at the bottom we checked the lead and it was filled with brush and completely cemented shut by the mud.  This appears to be more of a seepage drainage than anything I do not think there is any going passage under it unless it opens back up and has an additional collapse under the floor.

There was a lot of grass at the bottom and it appeared that there was a place where people could have climbed down, and back up from the sink. We picked up some of the debris and headed out of the cave.

This is a very interesting feature and a very religion feature as the remaining caves that we went to visit had similar properties as this one.
