Heather wading down the typical river passage in Honomu Creek, Big Island Hawaii

The Island of Hawaii has a lot of fascinating terrain which can go from a barron lava field to a dense rain forest in just an hours drive. On the north side of the island, there are many creeks that can be found fit for C class canyoneering.  Although Honomu Creek is very short and can be completed in an hour it is one of the many routes on the Hamakua Coast

Honomu Creek is a quick run through the rain forest that can be done in just a few hours depending on how long you stay at the ocean and how long you want to spend in the rain forest.  There is also a tunnel that was made that cut through the hill for the water to flow through.  We encountered only one drop of 50ft that took us down a nice waterfall.   The water was quite high which ended our trip down the river quickly.
