The Pololu valley trail is on the other side of the Hamakua coast on the north side of the Big Island of Hawaii.

This is a great hike to get introduced into the other hikes in the area including the Waipio and Waimanu valley hikes that are even more incredible.

The hike down to the black sand beach only takes around 20 minutes and the views of the valley in the background are fantastic.

What I liked most about this hike is the view of the cliffs and the islands that appear just off the coast of the Hamakua.

Parking is limited so you want tog the there early if you want to enjoy a day of hiking around this region.

There is also a trail beyond the beach that will take you back up into the forest and onto another plateau of the Hamakua coast.

The HamaKua coast is a spectacular place to visit but if you are limited on time than this hike might be your best best to get a glimpse into the beauty of the region.
