Cueva De Los Carracos. Colombia
Cueva De Los Carracos is a El Penon Santander North Andean cave in the high elevation wetland forest of Colombia.  This is one of the longer systems in the area with a few thousand feet of passage, most remains above a exposed climb.

The main trunk passage was about 700 meters in length and consisted of large borehole passage with formations hanging from the entrance and in the borehole itself.

The guacharos (oilbirds) made a distinctive sound was we entered the cave and even when we would talk, they would snarl louder.

This cave has a thick rain forest entrance through a canyon which was really interesting and made for a great day of caving.  If you ever get a chance to visit this cave, please take considerable care as to protect and tread lightly though the cave so you do not damage or disturb the natural habitat.  Caves are extremely important for the bio diversity and the local Colombians alike, please protect your lands.
