KANAB CREEK. GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, ARIZONA

September 26, 2019

The biggest canyon tributary in the grand canyon is almost like its own canyoning destination in itself.

There are multiple access points into the Kanab creek tributaries.

We took a route down from kanab point down a technical canyoneering route called Kanab 0 canyon.

The route that we took into Kanab creek took most of the day but once we were in the canyon, the massive redwall limestone walls expanded the horizon

and filled in most of our views of what we could see

Once we were in the canyon we headed over to Whispering falls canyon for a technical canyoneering descent down canyon which was gained by a sneak route into the canyon .

Once we were done with this half day canyon, we headed up stream to Scottys hollow canyon for our exit point.

We spent another night in kanab creek so we could have more water for the hike out the following day.

Along the way we passed Kanab 1 and kanab 2 canyons which are two more technical canyons that can be used to gain access into kanab creek.

I was impressed with how the walls and the terrain appeared to look as we continued to hike up to scottys

The hike out of Scottys hollow was a beautiful narrow canyon with a warm spring flowing through the canyon corridors.

We did have to climb around some challenging boulder obstructions that took some time to get around

Once we were at the esplanade we headed out a daunting exit that got steeper as we got higher.

This hike we had to pick our way through the kaibab layer to gain the rim and access to our cars that awaited us.

I am so grateful that we got to experience this hike and I am looking forward to more hikes in this region in the near future.
