ELKHART CANYON CLIFFS & DIANA'S THRONE CANYON

ELKHART CANYON CLIFFS
We woke up and broke down our campsite so we could get an early start out to Elkhart canyon and beat the heat. We drove back up north to route 89 and found the trail head and a Zion canyoneering truck in the back of the trailhead. I thought this canyon had no rating and was all horizontal but it did require ropes to get down.

We go around the ridge at the top and drop down into the canyon only to find bolted anchors to drop down into the canyon below.

We went back up and around the canyon back to the trailhead and I decided to hike down and go from the bottom up into the canyon.

I find a series of small dry falls with bolted anchors at the top that I was able to chimney and scramble up until I ran into the group. They were rather startled and dumbfounded to see me climbing up and popping out of a dry fall they were able to rappel into.

I ended up turning around and exited the canyon an went back up to the car to head over to our last location of the trip.

Elkhart was another nice intro to canyoneering canyon with some rappels and pit holes to negotiate. It appears that this canyon might be not as known as the other canyons in the area so I was glad I got a chance to view this canyon and make it from te bottom up.
