Kaumana Cave is a publicly open accessible cave outside of the town of Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii.

 The length of this Lava Tube cave is around 2197 meters in length and has had some relatively active status back in 1881 when the most recent flow of lava approached Hilo through this lava tube from Mauna Loa.

 The interesting red coloring is lava from the most recent flow that oxidized and left this beautiful frozen waterfall of Pahoepoe.

 This cave sees heavy visitation and unfortunately has a lot of graffiti near the entrance.

 It appeared that most people would only go for around 300-400ft before turning around so if you are properly prepared you can continue your trek into the cave and the people will start to leave. 

 Please bring 3 sources of light and a helmet into this cave.  We saw many people entering this cave that were not prepared to walk through this cave and injury is very easy to occur if you are not careful.
