S'MORES CANYON
April 25, 2021
S'mores canyon is a fun waterpark of a canyon that is located behind the Frye Canyon res. in south eastern AZ.
This is an excellent half day C class option to cool off and to get some great views of
waterfalls in the region.
We got here around 9 am after camping just down the ways in the desert.
We headed up a 2WD high clearance road to the trailhead and headed over to the top of the canyon.
We want to be careful of our footing once we got into the canyon as
the granite is quite slick.
Heading down the first half of the canyon we noticed the water was a bit cold for some but we were in the sun most of the time.
We worked our way down and found about 5 raps under 100 feet in length.
once we got down the last slide in the upper section of the canyon there is a escape route.
We had most of the group take off at the escape and Dan and I continued
to head down the canyon.
We found the lower section to be warmer than the upper as we were out of the wind.
There were 5 more raps encountered that were less than 100 feet in length.
The lower section is interesting as the water meanders down slides to over hung lips where you find yourself behind the
waterfall.
I highly recommend both sections of smores if you are going to visit this canyon.
There is one potential rope sticker at the lower section
that can easily be avoided.
Once you get down you have the option to walk around the pond or swim to the otherside.
I highly recommend this canyon if you are in the southeast region of AZ!
