GREYHOUND PIT, UTAH

July 27, 2021

Greyhound pit is a scenic open air pit located in the high karst plateau of a Utah alpine plain.

The vertical extent of this pit appears to be around 100 feet.

The initial drop is around 60 ft. down to a pile of snow. The drop is a nice open air drop with a lot of moss on the walls and flowstone drapery.

The cave continues into another room that ends.  It does have some formations and a few fissures in the cave.

This cave appears to have a big room feel but it ended quickly as most all of the other caves in the area.

It was nice to drop into a large room and get some time on rope.

Another interesting aspect about the cave is that there was snow at the bottom along with some interesting formations.

I was hoping to capture better photos than what I got but these work out pretty well.

If you are interested in caving please reach out to your local grotto and get into the world of caving.
