ANGEL CREEK CANYON. OURAY, CO.
August 09, 2021
Ouray is located in the beautiful mountains of the San Juan mountains in southwest Colorado.
A large portion of the year in Ouray has significant weather that includes heavy snow, rain, and cold weather temperatures.
Ice climbing is one of the significant sports
that occurs in Ouray. In fact, we went right by a great ice climbing route in cascade canyon.
Canyoneering is another excellent activity that occurs in Ouray.
Typically, canyoneering in Ouray occurs between July and September which is a small window of opportunity to go.
You also have to consider flash flood potential from rain storms which can cut down the time to go canyoneering in Ouray, by half.
Basically, if you got the time to go out to Ouray, GO!
The canyons out there are
beautiful!!
Angel Creek Canyon is one of those beautiful canyons. This canyon is about an hour in length, car to car but don't let that distract you, this canyon is a great introduction to Ouray canyoneering.
Water was flowing a bit and was just enough to get acclimated into the environment
of Ouray.
There are 4 raps, with an optional escape after the 3rd rap. When you get out to Ouray and you are looking to get ramped up in C class, this canyon has straightforward raps and a scenic start to the Ouray experience.
