LITTLE BLUE JOHN TO HORSESHOE CANYON, ROBBERS ROOST, UTAH

May 03, 2022

Blue John Canyon is a fantastic system of canyons that have multiple entry and exit points in the heart of Robbers Roost.

This is a classic canyon in the region and of course the location of the famous 127 hours occurrence.

We decided to head into the little blue john canyon entry point

This is a scenic short canyon that connects directly into the lower blue john canyon and horseshoe

We found a couple raps and a couple down climbs into scenic narrows.

We continued to work our way down as a large group and headed back out into the sunlight shortly after entering little blue.

There is a couple hours of hiking to get to the lower blue john canyon

Along the way, we saw the options to escape VIA the west fork and a break in the canyon where we could escape the canyon.

Once we got to the lower blue john canyon and passed by the Ralston incident and continued down.

The narrows are a bit short but they are indeed very scenic!

Beautiful colors of red orange and yellow illuminate the walls with hues of the color of fire.

All too soon, the canyon breaks open into a beautiful canyon below.

A free hanging rap brings you down into a multi mile walking canyon that turns our technical canyoneering experience into a backpacking canyon.

I knew this would be a long day for the team but it was a rather nice walk through the meandering gorge.

Horseshoe canyon also holds additional gems.

There is a beautiful panel with human size figurines on the wall.

This was a beautiful surprise and continuing down the canyon, you will find multiple panels on the wall.

Make sure you set up a car shuttle at the Horsehoe trailhead so you can complete the day with a shuttle back to your cars.
