DAY 2 DESERT CAVING

April 09, 2016

Day two of the crews desert caving trip and we went to visit 5 caves.  Each of these caves were pretty close to each other and the caves were small but interesting enough fit 5 of them into our day.

The caves are small but they have some interesting geologic features to them that make these caves great to visit.

The first cave we went to visit was a very tight vertical shaft that went down around 40-50ft.  It was pretty sharp and could only fit a couple people.

the second cave had an entrance that was a bit bigger in size but had this narrow canyon passage at the bottom that had rocks raining down on us, dusty, and some dead birds at the bottom, paradise!.

The climb out as also ackward as we were basically stemming up a fault of sorts and ascending on rope to the top.

This drop felt like it was about 40-50ft in length.

After we left this cave we headed over to another longer cave that had some interesting entrance rooms but a tight crawl into the lower mazy portion of the cave.

This cave had some standing canyon passage but quickly ended.

After leaving this cave,we headed to another location where there were two more caves to visit.

One of these caves had a tight entrance to a slopping stoop walk that gradually go bigger down to the bottom.

The bottom of the cave had some interesting coloring to the walls and some small formations.

The second cave in this area had just one decently sized room for the region and no going passage.

These caves are under a protection policy so they are not disclosed as to their whereabouts.  If you are interested in caving please reach out to your local grotto to learn about caving and safe caving practices.
