Scorpion Canyon. Death Valley National Park, California |
Scorpion canyon is a death valley canyon located near the Badlands and Zabriskie Point. This canyon is a mud and clay stone canyon which gives it a unique look and a very dry desolate appearance to the canyon.
There were 7 raps in this canyon that ranged from 25 ft to 150ft in length.

We started off in the lower badlands and hiked our way up to a plateau ridge where a wash started to appear.
We followed that wash down and simply found the canyon as we followed the obvious wash.

There are other canyons that you can go to from this area.

We continued down this highway like dry spring to the first rap which was some of the easiest walking in any canyon.

The raps were really straightforward and nice to work through.

We replaced some of the anchors but, overall the anchors appeared to be a bit better than the anchored webbing we found in purgatory canyon.

The weather was perfect for this canyon and by the time we got to the final section, the weather must have been in the 70s.

I highly recommend this canyon for a great second day canyon to a weekend death valley excursion.

I also recommend vineagaroon canyon as a great follow up Sunday canyon but the drops are not as big.
