Little Finland, Nevada |
Little Finland is a little gem of a place that is in the desert just outside of Las Vegas in the Gold Butte Recreational area.

Wind erosion has carved figures of sculpted sandstone that mimic gargoyles and twisted metal
to create a natural gallery of sorts within the desert.

The road to this region is a series of broken up paved roads until about 7 miles before a turn off to Little Finland.

The road becomes wash board like with rocks and some mild gravel. The side road turns a bit more rough but it is not all that bad. Eventually you get to a wash that is more gravel than sand and I drove about a mile away from Little Finland and we hiked across the desert.

Once we got over the last ridge we descended upon this area and the white residue could be seen along with some very interesting rock formations.

The sandstone had some very interesting swirling contours and talon like Gothic formations.

The minerals surrounding this area, along with the wind and water erosion create weaknesses within the rock and the wind sculpts it way through the walls creating these bio mechanical looking monoliths.

These structures were around 3 ft in height and they were not that lengthy but for the section that they were in, the sculptures were quite interesting.

We hiked along the ridge and enjoyed a nice January cool breeze with the sun beating down on the ground.
Little Finland, Nevada |
There is a road that drives right up to the location but we were not sure if it was only for 4x4 plus I wanted to cross the desert to see if there were any other figurines.
Little Finland, Nevada |
We found some more interesting designs within the rock and also found a nice hike through som Joshua trees.
Little Finland, Nevada |
Little finland would be a nice place to camp at for a night due to the location of where it is to the city and how the sun would set over these figurines on the ridge.

Coming out here in the summer would be a bit more of a risk as the temperature would exceed 100 degrees.

Furthermore the remoteness could become a risk if you get a flat tire so prepare accordingly.

Lets all do our part to protect and be responsible when we visit these locations in gold butte.

I think a visit to this location at sunset would be a lot better but it was nice to see how this place looked like during the daytime.
