PORTLAND CANYON ( IVAN'S TAIL). OURAY, CO.

August 09, 2021

Portland canyon is a very short canyon that is right inside the town of Ouray in Colorado.

This canyon is quite short but a lot of fun for being so close to the road.

We encountered two rappels in this canyon that were in the water.

The first rap was right in the water and it was right under the road.

The second rap is a small drop that has boulders and footing that could be downclimbed but rappelling worked out the best.

This is a great place to take beginner canyoneers that are getting into C class canyons.

You must be aware of the weather within the region to see if any canyon in Ouray is safe to go through.

I believe this canyon can get done in a half hour but we took around an hour.

This can be a great second canyon if you are looking for more waterfull fun.

August appears to be around the best time to go canyoneering in ouray for the amount of weather this region can see throughout the year.

Make sure you check the bolts and approaching the anchor as it can be slippery.

We ended up finding a lot of mushrooms for a fantastic dinner up in the mountains.
