First dive of the trip is the deepest one of the weekend, the shipwreck of the Norman. What a beautiful wreck she is in her final resting place in about 200ft. of water. She is the sister ship of the Grecian which is another excellent dive site off of Thunderbay that I had the chance to visit 4 years ago. The Norman was a steam cargo ship that was hit by a wooden ship called the Jack.
She went down in May of 1895. We had an excellent dive on this ship but there is so much to see on her that we only were able to get into half of the wreck before having to turn to our decompression schedules. We did not have any incidents and everyone had a successful dive.
My only picture that really turned out of the Norman and it did not turn out too well :( |

Our second dive was on the New Orleans but only after avoiding the thunderstorms that we have to thread through on the lake itself. I am gong to have to go back to the norman and visit her again some other time to get to the otherside of the wreck and see what else she has on her. My photos turned out to be crap due to a fogged housing so I was able to present the wreck on this blog with Jitka Hanakovas photos. Jitka takes trips out to the Norman every year so reach out to her to learn more about joining her next charter to the Norman.
