MOMS CAVE, NEVADA

Moms Cave, Nevada |
Moms cave is located in a limestone range that has seen signs of use from graffiti vandalism to some bolted routes and other apparent traffic.

I am of the opinion that the bolted routes can be OK, if the bolts are a bit blended into the
color of the rock and there are not an abundance of them. I understand that the climbing community enjoys bolted fixed aid routes in overhanging environments.

Cavers place bolts in some caves and I don't really think there is a
whole lot of impact on the environment other than there being steel
embedded in the rock and a scar hole in the rock if the bolt is pulled
out.

I do have a problem with the graffiti that is on the rock and the damage that it has caused the cave and the surrounding impact that it has caused.

The cave has two entrances and the other side of the cave can be seen once you get into the large entrance into the cave. There is one side passage that appeared to have ambient light shining though which was leading me to believe that there is a third entrance to the cave.

The cave itself has a big room 30x20 ft in dimension which is interesting to see and the walk through entrance reminded me a bit of Mutha cave.

The limestone appeared to be a bit brittle but higher up on the ridge, the limestone appears to solidify and become pretty solid. I am curious if there is a bigger system somewhere higher up on the range from snow melt and other activity.

I hope that in the future people will take better care of their lands and use them as places of sanctuary and cherish our lands instead of destroying them.
