After our hike in the Waimanu Valley, we wanted to get some open water scuba diving complete so we hired a dive Charter and got to check out a couple dive locations.

We went with Jacks Dive locker which had some fantastic accommodations, including tanks and BCs setup on the dive boat but they would even change out your tanks and clean all of your equipment!

I found that to be unique. They offered great service. The dives had a lot of fish but there is not as much
coral as some other places. After our dives I was happy to see there was more coral than I thought there would be but there were some really nice fish to see.

I was also surprised to see a white tip reef shark hiding in a small cavern and schools of dolphins cruising by
us as we were swimming along.

In between dives we went out into the ocean and saw a school of whales with a oceanic white tip shark lurking in the radius.

The boat captain asked everyone if they knew how deep we were and being Great lake minded, I shouted out 600ft! ummm, no...add another zero to that... it was 6000ft deep! We only had a 20-30 boat ride out into the ocean and it was already over a mile deep!

Our dives were pretty close to shore, so close that after diving we went out to the beach and swam out into the bay and saw almost everything we would normally see by free diving into the water.

The water viz was fantastic and and we have bottom times of 65ft for around 30-45 minutes.

I am more use to cave diving and cold great lakes diving so this was a nice change and really easy diving for what I am use to. Heather did fantastic as this was her first open water dive.

I am looking forward to more diving around the world at some other locations.
