Old glory hole cave is a quartzite pit cave that is in a undisclosed area within the United States. I was able to re-discover this cave after 40 years of lost data through the archives and the files within the files of lost data.
This is void that was opened up by human influence and was surveyed back in the 70s to have
a depth of 138ft be around 105 ft in length. the ceiling of the large room is almost 100ft high.
We were lucky to have great weather and the sun was at a position where we had a sunbeam shining through the entrance shaft of the cave.
There was fine quartzite sandstone sand at the bottom and there was a breccia tube at the entrance of this cave
accessing the bottom required the use of our SRT kits but the brittle crumbly sandstone was at a level that became dangerous to even be near so we only had two people go down and up, at a time.
the entrance drop appeared to be around 110ft and we had a 160ft rope which brought us down with a decent amount of rope at the bottom.
The walls and ceiling were of a cream color and there was this mysterious green bacteria/algae growth on the walls where water was dripping into the cave.
This was not a solutional cave as it was explained to us but rather a void that was created through other means. I will update this blog with the correct information on what our geologist commented on.
There was a beautiful sunbeam that was coming right into the cave that gave this beautiful lighting inside the cave itself.
We are happy that we were able to re-discover this cave and we hope that we can locate more caves in the near future.
