DAY 1 DESERT CAVING
April 08, 2016
The deserts mystery is infinite and will always hold its secrets with a very steadfast determination to keep those secrets from being visited to all but the few who are lucky enough to visit them.
This trip was to explore some of these fascinating places and and help responsible cavers develop skill sets, photo document, some of the caves, and to help preserve these fascinating places.
The first cave we went to visit had a interesting sinkhole that was vertical and required rope to enter into the cave.
At the bottom of this sink was passage that headed left and right, we entered into the obvious passage and found some crawling and a interesting plaque at the back of the cave.
It is really easy to get turned around out here and we spent a bit of time looking around for one of the group members that did not come into the cave.
The second cave, we were not able to locate. The information that we had was really old so it was difficult to find some of these caves.
We found a very short third cave that was basically a small room at the bottom of the cave and was interesting to check out.
We left the area after viewing some flowers and headed to another area where there was another grouping of caves.
The following cave had a small vertical entrance with a decently sized room for the regions standards at the bottom.
There were also some mummifed rabbits and other animals at the bottom of the cave.
We all hiked out and went to the last cave for the day which was a small breakdown cave with no going passage.
The weather was wonderful and the night was going to be great so we headed over to the campsite to get set up for the night.
We waited for another member of the crew to show up and he finally made it well after dark.
It was a great first day of caving and we are looking forward to the next two full days of caving.
These caves are under protection and are not to be disclosed. If you are interested in caving, please join the local grotto and they will be happy to help you prepare for caving activities.
