Gorg Blau & Sa Fosca canyons
October 19, 2022
Gorg Blau ad Sa Fosca are some of the most unique canyons in the EU.
Located in Mallorca Spain, Sa Fosca and Gorg blau take you through lush deep narrow corridors, with green moss covering the towering walls within the canyon.
Sa Fosca narrows even more and becomes so tall and dark that headlamps are needed to venture through the canyon.
If you turn off your headlamp you can see the smaller glimmer of light passing through high above but it is indeed not a cave.
This canyon make for some of the most unique scenery and a wonderful day with friends.
We opted to go through just Sa Fosca since Gorg Blau was reported to be dry and would be a bit of a pain to get to the best part of the canyon.
Sa Fosca has a sneak route that is equally as interesting as a stand alone canyon and the approach is also interesting.
There are a series of re anchors that are hard fixed to the downclimbs that make the passage for some difficult but easy and straightforward for others.
Once down into the canyon you are at the tail end of Gorg Blau and at the beginning of SA Fosca.
We got to the canyon when Sa Fosca was just a trickle and the pots were full. The raps were plentiful and the biggest drop was around 60 ft.
There are a few raps that are down climbable and a few that you can jump into the pools of water.
We were moving a bit slow but found that we were in the darkness for about an hour.
The canyon was cold, even with the thick wetsuit and rain jacket on.
The canyon warmed up once we got back into the light zone and the green covered moss walls.
Eventually we opened up into a gorge where we could hike back out back to our cars.
Here are a few notes to consider:
Shuttle car is quite short but is helpful.
Be at the parking lots around 7 am or they will fill up.
bring thick wetsuits or drysuits
to find the exit can be a bit of a turn around but once your on the trail, its straightforward.
it took us 10 hours, car to car,
