Standing over the gorge as wind carries dust and debris over the rim has me pondering the origins of this volcanic canyon. Water and time eroded away a gorge exposing the deposits of reds and yellows through bands in the wall and leaving a tale of fire and smoke for this regions hostile past.
Rainbow canyon is a short half day canyon just outside of the west side of Death Valley. Many people come to visit the overlook and, if they are lucky, have a chance to see fighter jets fly through. Fewer still, get a chance to see the canyon up close of be in the inner drainage of rainbow canyon.
3 raps of 170 and less were encountered in rainbow canyon along with a pothole at the bottom of rap 2. This pothole appeared to be a bit difficult
To climb out of but rigging a belay from the top easily solves that problem so you can belay anyone who ventures into the cauldron.
A ridge hike out takes you back to the top with 3 hours of fun from car to
Car.
Burnt canyon is a large tributary within the boundaries of Grand Canyon National Park.
There is a non technical multi day hike that takes you down into the canyon and a technical canyoneering route that takes you through the east fork.
The non technical multi day hike takes you down a path to the main fork of burnt canyon.
There is miles of gorge like
Hiking that eventually take you to the river.
The technical eastern fork of
Burnt canyon takes you through a bit more of a scenic course through the supai and redwall.
You must do your research when you plan and prepare to visit this region.
When we were at the east fork, we encountered some down climbs
and a short rappel.
The canyon continues down
And eventually connects with the main fork of burnt canyon.
Water might be an issue so plan accordingly
This region is very remote and very few people travel here.
The canyon was interesting but I did not find it to be the most scenic.
There are many other hikes that are quite scenic and interesting.
However, you can’t go wrong with the Grand Canyon.
And there is absolute solitude here.
If you really want a place that is
desolate of people, you have come to the right place.
Make sure you prepare for the drive to the trailhead.
The road in itself is quite remote
Enjoy this amazing place
Blue Point Spring and Rogers Spring are two spring resurgences within the Lake Mead National Recreation area an hour north of Las Vegas.
These two spring resurgences release warm spring water that was measured to be at 81 degrees F.
The water comes from 10s of miles away from a large aquifier that might be connected to a system under ely, Nevada.
I went here to check for a potential dive into these springs using a No mount configuration and both springs appear to be inaccessible to diving into the springs due to restrictions.
One spring had some very brittle ceiling material that appears to flake off when touched.
Another spring had a slab rock restriction that did not allow for human travel into the spring.
These springs are both beautiful places to visit and I can see why people like swimming in these areas.
I highly recommend visiting these two places if you are looking for a nice swim in warm water.
Do not dunk your head underwater due to an amoeba that could potential cause major brain damage
Mighty mouse canyon is a cute little side canyon located in the Zion national park region.
After coming up the narrows from another canyon, we took a side trip to visit mighty mouse.
We made our way over a hill with some scrambling involved and worked our way down into mighty mouse.
We found the raps to be straightforward and had 4 raps total.
Once we were in the canyon, the walls slotted up and it was a nice small section of scenic narrows
This all ended quickly and we were back out in the narrows in about an hour or so.
I recommend this canyon to be combined with other canyons in the area as it is not a destination canyon but a good side canyon to visit.

Eastern Sun canyon is a remote Zion national park canyon that doesn't get a whole lot of visitors and also packs a punch.
The canyon is near Dead eye dick and mighty mouse which all three can be combined for a long day on the east mesa region.
We got an early start so we could take advantage of the day and get as much time in the canyons as possible.
The canyon took about an hour or so for the approach through bush whacking and down
into the canyon tail.
Eventually we worked out way over to the top of the dramatic first drop on Eastern sun and let the fun begin.
The canyon drops into a deep narrow canyon with a impressive 170ft drop on the first rap.
We had a group of 9 people and everyone had a rope so we were able to move quickly through the canyon.
The canyon continued to provide continuous rappels smaller than 100 ft in length through out the rest of the canyon
I made sure everyone was carrying a rope, webbing and building new anchors as needed and setting up raps as needed so we were able to get through the canyon in less than 2 hours.
The canyon was quite nice and doesn't have many visitors but the canyon seemed to end quite quickly.
That might have been we were working so well together or it could have been that the actual canyon was a bit short.
I like think that we worked quickly through this canyon and made great time.
Once we were out of the canyon we headed back up the narrows to chamberlain ranch
We made a quick stop at mighty mouse canyon to check out this short but nice canyon and made it out in good time.

I recommend this canyon for a good remote excursion into the east mesa region and a good off day to a more lengthy stay when zion canyoneering
I am looking forward to finishing up the zion canyons and continuing to visit more of the grand canyon canyons in the near future.
overall it is a great canyon and worthy of a visit!
