Yannick in Deep Chasm Canyon
Day three and we headed across the valley from the Princess Bride range to the Grapevine range to check out one of the canyons that feeds into Fall canyon

We grab 210 ft of rope and equivalent pull cord and headed up to the plateau where the canyons drain into fall canyon.
Deep Chasm Canyon
There are around 6 or 7 canyons on the foot hills above falls canyon so we headed for Deep chasm since it appeared to have some interesting raps and scenery and it was one of the canyons that would fit the bill for raps under 200ft.

Deep Chasm might have seen its only other group a few years ago when Scott Swaney did the first descent. Scott rated this canyon a 3AIII and that the canyon had 6 raps up to 150ft.

Knowing we might be the second wave of humans going through this canyon, we brought extra webbing to rebuild anchors and know we might need to rebuild anchors.

We hiked up to where Scott dropped in and found that if we just stayed on the foot hills section, we would have saved a bit of time and found that the main drainage was just below us.

Rapping into Deep Chasm Canyon
We found some interesting rock formations and long raps up to 150ft as well. The canyon had some rapid fire drops with some nice scenery.

We could see fall canyon below which was interesting and reminded me a bit of looking down into the narrows but with no people and no flowing water.

We got down into Fall Canyon within 3 to 4 hours of our start which was pretty decent time and would have left us enough time to grab another.  Unfortunately, we headed home and have a plan to return to the grapevine range shortly.

Death Valley canyons are unique in their own right as you have to make sure to build the proper anchors and find your way around the desolate and remote desert of Death Valley.
